Future of mental health day services

Southwark Council is currently 'consulting' on what type of day care support services people with mental health problems and those who care for them need.

Introduction of personal budgets means that a number of services previously provided by local authorities can now be 'bought' individually from other 'service providers'.

The council has spent the last 18 months talking with residents to find out what other support adults with mental health problems need, which would sit along the services they buy through their personal budgets. The council has developed a service model which would provide additional support and information to people which focuses on regaining skills and reconnecting with their communities.

You can read the background information to the consultation here.

The consultation is open between 12th August and 3rd November 2013, and you can submit your comments online here or email the council Mental Health Day Opportunities team directly to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information.

If you are a carer of someone with mental health needs, you may want to take part in a discussion at Southwark Carers on 10th October - please let Southwark Carers know if you would like to attend by emailing them to This email address is being protected from spambots.
