Elephant endangered

Monday to Wednesday next week, the Crypt at St Peter's Church on Liverpool Grove will host the 'Elephant Endangered', sound piece by artist Sherry Ostapovich.

Elephant Endagered, by Sherry Ostapovich, is a sound exploration of the community and gentrification in Elephant and Castle and Walworth.

It has traditionally been a working-class neighbourhood with more recent residents coming from all over the world with large numbers from Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America. The area has been subject to several contentious ‘regeneration’ schemes that have already caused the loss of 1100 socially rented homes of the Heygate Estate.  Elephant Endangered is made up of the many different sounds of the area which are overlaid with conversations with neighbours, friends, and longstanding residents.  The work is set to continue with new sounds and voices being added through continued dialogues, events, and activities in the community.

You can hear the piece

between 12 noon and 15:00 on Monday 18th and Wednesday 20th August and

between 13:00 - 17:00 on Tuesday 19th August.

For more information please go to Sherry Ostapovich's website.
